Five days ago I didn't think this outcome was possible. But baseball is a funny game. And, as anybody who saw tonight's game can attest, it's a great game, God's game. Congratulations to the scrappy Minnesota Twins and their fans. They had another great year when nobody thought they would. Well done.

I think this  brand new Junot Diaz story and Q&A is just what the doctor ordered. Because we have to carry it forward, don't we? We have to read and listen and, of course, we have to write. We have to. What else could we do to mark the passing of such an extraordinarily complex, brilliantly baffling genius who left so much to ponder in his wake?

I've become a big fan of Craig Ferguson the past few months. Yesterday, his monologue was particularly good.
